In 1972 Sebastião Gonçalves acquired a small piece of land in the mountains of the volcanic region of Poços de Caldas, called Sítio Panelão (Panelão Estate), thinking about the future of his son Marcos Cezar, then just born.

The first 1,000 coffee trees were planted in the same year. The site was in a precarious state in terms of structure and there was a lot of work ahead.

At the age of 15, Marcos Cezar started helping his father in this endeavor. In parallel, Marcos, who already showed great skill with the tools of production, also offered his work to other neighboring producers, in order to help with the family's income and his dream of strengthening the coffee activity.

At the age of 18, he took over the business, which expanded to 3 more small properties nearby over the years.

Today, father and son are proud of the result of so many years of effort and love for coffee. They structure the place in order to produce high quality coffees, taking advantage of the local altitude of 1050 to 1260m.

Marcos, nicknamed "Japan", together with his wife Célia and "seu Tião", as the patriarch is known, consistently offers outstanding coffees that have been enjoyed since 2019 by coffee lovers in Europe, through the partnership with Volcano.
