The Volcanic Microregion of Poços de Caldas is an authentic Brazilian coffee terroir, where farms are scattered along slopes of one of the most geologically rich volcanic caldera in the world.
With average heights from 1,000m to 1,250m, rich combination of volcanic minerals and rainforest soil and a rare climate condition, this unique microregion has ideal conditions for growing excellent and exquisite profiles of specialty coffees.
The subtropical altitude climate offers to this terroir an excellent rainfall rate and the largest thermal amplitude for a whole day among all the Brazilian coffee growing regions, creating outstanding conditions for the maturation of the beans and triggering a burst of flavors for the coffees.
These are natural vocations which join a culture based on quality and sustainability principals.

After a successful quality project in 2013 - conceived and managed by Volcano Origin Coffees - there were identified some distinct qualities of specialty green coffees grown specifically in the Volcanic Micro Region of Poços de Caldas, with very typical quality profiles.
The origin profile St. Domingos is a high quality coffee that presents a great sweetness. It has a smooth body and a pleasant aftertaste. Clean, consistent, uniform and very well balanced. Perfect for single origin but also used for special blends.
The name of this unique and exquisite coffee is an homage to the - Poços de Caldas volcano, one of the most geologically rich volcanic calderas in the world. In the catholic culture, very embbeded in Brazilian culture, St. Domingos is a very important Saint, famous for expanding frontiers for his cause. Analogue to what Volcano does with its 'terroir coffees'.
Sustainability - Economic, Social and Environmental
Volcano Origin Coffees works through a close relationship with growers who can produce truly specialty green coffees. Besides the offer of high quality coffees, these estates presents a preserved Atlantic Rainforest environment, with a rich fauna, flora and full of water spring, together with very low chemical inputs in the coffee farming.
The manual harvesting system - hand picked - ensures both employment and income generation to the community, together with several benefits offered by the growers as housing, electricity and social hub in most cases.
To ensure the continuity of this sustainable coffee culture, Volcano Origin Coffees value the growers economically, paying fair prices for their specialty coffees and stimulating them for a consistent production of high quality coffees crop after crop.
